At TUM, the administrativ regulation “Radiation Protection” (Organisationsverfügung "Strahlenschutz“, OrgV StrlSch) regulates the implementation of the Atomic Energy Act, the Radiation Protection Act, the Radiation Protection Ordinance, the Nuclear Waste Disposal Ordinance and the organization of radiation protection as well as the transfer of duties and powers in radiation protection at the Technical University of Munich.
Hochschulreferat 6 is responsible for all processes at TUM that require approval or notification in accordance with the Atomic Energy Act (AtG), the Radiation Protection Act (StrlSchG) or the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV), with the exception of the independent areas of responsibility of the central scientific institutes “Radiochemistry Munich (RCM)” and “Research Neutron Source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II)”.
In the case of permit-free handling of radioactive substances, there is an obligation to notify the Hochschulreferat 6.
If you have any questions about radiation protection, official procedures and the protection of persons when handling ionizing radiation, please contact the Radiation Protection Specialist at the Hochschulreferat 6.

Authorized Representatives and Appointed Persons
The relevant legal regulations and the TUM's administrativ regulation on radiation protection (Organisationsverfügung “Strahlenschutz”, OrgV StrlSch) define two individually appointed officials in the area of radiation protection.
The Radiation protection representatives on-site (Strahlenschutzbevollmächtige vor Ort, SSBvvO) perform organizational and administrative tasks on behalf of the central radiation protection representative (SSV) within their area of responsibility. They ensure that all financial, spatial and personnel resources are available to fulfill radiation protection tasks in accordance with requirements. They propose the radiation protection officers responsible for their area and, with their cooperation, issue the radiation protection instructions applicable to the area. Both the appointment of the radiation protection officers and the approval of the radiation protection instructions are carried out by the Hochschulreferat 6
Unlike safety officers, radiation protection supervisors are responsible, among other things, for ensuring compliance with the protective provisions of the Radiation Protection Ordinance within their area of responsibility. In order to enforce this responsibility, they are therefore given the authority to issue instructions on radiation protection to all persons who work or are present in their area of responsibility, regardless of their position under employment law. They are appointed by the Hochschulreferat 6 or (in the areas of RCM and FRMII) by the central radiation protection officers responsible in each case after the necessary expertise has been checked.
Radiation Passports and Dosimeters
Radiation passports and dosimeters for use in external facilities and dosimeters for use in experiments at the Heinz-Maier-Leibniz Research Neutron Source (FRMII) can be requested from Hochschulreferat 6.
If you have any questions about dosimetry or radiation passports, please contact the radiation protection specialist of Hochschulreferat 6.
Radiation Protection Courses
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection provides an overview of all providers of radiation protection courses on its website.
The Technical University of Munich, Hochschulreferat 6 - Health, Safety, Radiation Protection no longer offers courses for acquiring or maintaining (=updating) specialist knowledge in radiation protection until further notice.
