First aid helps in an emergency - and that's exactly why it's so important. Many complete their first aid course when they learn how to drive a car and rarely refresh it. Do you remember how to bring an accident victim into the stable side position? Do you know how to bandage a heavily bleeding wound? You still know a few things, but in refresher courses you realize how little you can actually do.
For this reason, International First Aid Day was established in 2000. It takes place every year on the second Saturday in September.
First aiders are also trained at the TUM and "refreshed" with courses
Mental health first aiders (Mental Health First Aid) are also needed more and more to anchor first aid for psychological problems as well as first aid for physical illnesses in our society.
Mental health courses are also offered at TUM through TUMhorizons, providing knowledge and skills to support a person with mental health problems until professional help is available.
